The unhinged first-person shooter has been out for a week and it already started sparking controversy over the internet. From the mind of Justin Roiland, this funny adventure can get a bit extreme.
High on Life is not for everyone
Before you jump into playing this game, you might want to know that it has quite extreme humour which might not be appreciated by every soul.
If you watched the trailer, did you notice anything familiar? Yes, we did too!
The game was created by Justin Roiland – the co-mastermind behind Rick and Morty, and the voice of them both. High on Life was developed and published by Squanch Games, which also comes from the sci-fi cartoon. It was developed using Unreal Engine 4, imagine if it would have been built using UE5.
Being so different from the nowadays games, you might like it and might get accustomed to the quite dark-humour and weird feelings.
The game itself starts with a pretty fun disclaimer, saying that if you experience any bugs, they are part of the game and might be some references or jokes. Yeah, right?
The features High on Life comes with are really good
One of the biggest things this game comes with is the talking guns. Yes, it has talking guns. This an amazing feature and it has all the regular FPS gun types that have their own personal voice actor and more than that, their own personality. Pretty insane. Oh, and they make fun of the players when they get into not-so-pleasant situations.
The more guns you collect, the more combos you unlock, making the game extremely fun switching through your gun buddies and obliterating enemies.
Also, quite early in the gameplay, you will unlock a psycho rage-filled knife that won’t stop talking about stabbing and rampaging. Spoiler alert, you can perform some wicked melee kills that trigger special animations with the knife bud. On top of that, your new friend can be used as a grappling hook.
Rick and Morty fans will highly enjoy this game
For hardcore Rick and Morty fans, hearing Morty’s unique voice through Kenny’s lips for hours and hours might get old at times, but High on Life is still a funny and cleverly written experience. The FPS is probably one of the funniest games you’ve ever played if you appreciate Rick and Morty’s bizarre humour and unexpected commentary.
The game might feel a bit bland at times
Even though the second part of the game doesn’t quite hit the first half’s unseen and unknown highs, you can still have fun playing to the completion of the game.
The second part of High on Life still features a lot of entertaining moments, out-of-the-box story twists, and humorous insights about game design, even if it is unable to maintain the energy of its first half for the whole game.
Did you notice another familiar thing?
One thing we observed was that High on Life looks pretty similar to Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart. The maps, the creatures and the animations look like they have something in common with the critically acclaimed PlayStation game.
