Even though last year’s EVO was plagued with multiple controversies, the organizers are currently rearing up for this year’s EVO.
The Evolution Championship Series, also known as EVO, is one of the biggest fighting game tournaments in the world. It started in 1996 and has continuously brought much attention to the fighting game scene. EVO 2023 will take place in Las Vegas’ Mandalay Bay and will run from August 4 to 6. There will be multiple panels and exhibitions, including a side tournament for a pre-release version of Granblue Fantasy Versus: Rising. Every game on the main stage will have a 25,000 prize pool.
This time, one of the most notable changes is every main-stage tournament’s streaming format. Instead of showcasing the Top 8, only the Top 6 will be live-cast. The organizers clearly stated that they want to reduce streaming times since certain games can have long rounds. Here is a rundown of the entire game lineup:
- Guilty Gear Strive
- Tekken 7
- The King of Fighters XV
- Melty Blood: Type Lumina
- Mortal Kombat 11: Ultimate
- Street Fighter 6
- Dragon Ball FighterZ
- Ultimate Marvel Vs. Capcom 3
Fans of the Marvel vs. Capcom series are very excited about seeing the third game in the series make a comeback. It’s been a few years since this game was present at EVO, so people are eager to see how the meta has evolved. Also, this will be the first tournament where we see Street Fighter 6 in a competitive environment. You can get more information about the event right here.
