Even though VR has not been that huge of a success for the Nintendo Switch, plenty of games are compatible with it and offer some interesting experiences.

Users have countless options with the VR industry finally settling in after a rough start. But while PC solutions can be pretty expensive, especially for a premium option, consoles are starting to offer their own retort. And Nintendo didn’t want to be left behind, so they came up with their own VR solution, including 3rd party headsets.

Since indie games on the Nintendo Switch are constantly coming out, there are plenty of titles to try out every month. But when it comes to VR games, it isn’t easy to find any new titles. So you’ll probably have to look into the Nintendo Switch backlog to find any VR titles. Let’s help you out by showing you some of the best VR games for Nintendo Switch.

SuperHot VR

Created by a small indie team, SuperHot brought a classic roguelike mechanic into the FPS realm. The rules are simple. When you move, everyone moves with you. If you’re standing still, the world around you is basically stuck in time. But as soon as you move an inch enemies will start moving towards you or fire their guns. Gameplay quickly devolves into John Wick-styled action as you easily pop headshots or crack enemies in the face with your fists. All of this works great with VR since compared to other FPS games you can stop as you figure out how to mow down incoming enemies.

Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker

This kid-friendly puzzle game will have you scour various levels for treasure. Each level is a beautifully rendered diorama, and all of them look amazing in VR. Even though the gameplay is rather simplistic, there is a lot of charm hiding within this title. Fans of classic Nintendo games will also be excited to see Toad finally get his time in the spotlight. The only real downside to playing this game in VR is that switching between levels can sometimes look a bit jarring. But that’s only a small caveat compared to the excellent puzzle gameplay that you will find here.

Hitman 3

There is not much to say about this infamous 3rd person shooter. With a focus on freedom of choice, the latest title in the series returns to the classic formula after trying out a more linear experience. And this is an excellent deal since you get three Hitman games fused into one title. The graphics are pretty good, with the only downside being that this is a cloud title, meaning you will need a pretty good internet connection to run it smoothly. Gameplay is as expected, make your way through various levels and figure out the best solution to quietly take out your targets. While the controls can sometimes be a little wonky in VR, it’s still an interesting dive into the world of imaginary assassins.

Another cloud title that will require a decent internet connection and ideally the OLED version of the Switch for that ethernet port, Resident Evil 7 offers the same amount of scares in VR. And some of those scares will feel more personal given the first-person perspective combined with VR. Gameplay works great and aiming for those juicy headshots has never been easier with the help of your trusty Joy-Cons. So any fans of horror games should definitely try out RE7 if they haven’t already. Just keep the lights on so you have a safe space to return to when things get too intense.

One of the best Mario games that you can play on the Nintendo Switch, Super Mario Odyssey is also one of the best VR games for Nintendo Switch. The 3rd person perspective will take a while to get used to in VR, but once you do, it’s all smooth sailing from there. Gameplay is as exhilarating as ever as you jump and dash your way across maps while taking the form of various enemies. If you’ve yet to play this amazing title, picking it up now for VR should be a priority. And with a lot of content including multiplayer challenges, this is one game that will keep you coming back for more.

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim VR

If you’re yearning to return to Tamriel’s beautiful lands, this VR variant for the Switch is an excellent opportunity. Motion controls feel great as you swing weapons and cast spells to your heart’s content. The first-person perspective works great in VR, but we can’t say the same for 3rd person. While not necessarily flawed, you will need some time to get used to it. The graphics look as good as you would expect from such an old game, but this shouldn’t be an issue since the Nintendo Switch has limited hardware as is. If you’re used to the PC version, the only real downside is the lack of mods, but you can’t have it all now, can you?

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild

One of the best Nintendo Switch RPG games, Breath of the Wild doesn’t really need an introduction. Clearly one of the best games in the series, Breath of the Wild equips Link with a ton of gadgets and special abilities that help him interact with the world around him. Some of them are especially important when taking on puzzles, with the first-person perspective helping a lot with some. This is why VR works great, even though this is a 3rd-person game. Aiming your bow has never been easier with a VR headset paired up with the motion controls already present in Joy-Cons.
