It’s finally here! The recently revealed Mortal Kombat 1 trailer confirms the reset of the series’ timeline under Fire God Liu Kang’s command.

It’s a terrific moment to be a fan of fighting games, and Mortal Kombat is entering the fight in addition to the new Street Fighter and Tekken titles that will be released soon. Developer NetherRealm Studios describes Mortal Kombat 1 as a fresh take on the series that includes reinvented versions of iconic characters, a brand-new fighting system, different game modes, and of course the violent fatalities that the series has become notorious for. Mortal Kombat 1 is a sort of reboot of the franchise that takes place in the New Era chronology.

In contrast to the terrible Mortal Kombat timelines we’ve seen throughout the series history, the world Liu Kang has created in the recently released trailer is a peaceful utopia. That tranquillity is swiftly disturbed by a bloody cinematic extravaganza that returns Mortal Kombat to its familiar territory. Naturally, cracking necks and pulling out people’s eyes anger Liu Kang, which beautifully sets up the game’s plot.

According to the trailer and the official Mortal Kombat 1 website, Liu Kang, Scorpion, Sub-Zero, Raiden, Kung Lao, Kitana, Mileena, Shang Tsung, Johnny Cage, and many others will appear in Mortal Kombat 1. The pre-order exclusive bonus will include Shang. We’ll have to wait and see who else signs on, but so far our hopes are really high.

It’s interesting that the game introduces a new mechanic called Kameo Fighters about which we now know little to nothing. According to the website, users can choose from a unique roster of Kameo fighting partners to assist them in battle.

It goes on to say that we’ll choose these fighters apart from the main roster, although it’s interesting to note that Scorpion and Sub-Zero are shown on the screenshot for the Kameo Fighters on the MK1 website. When the game launches in, we’ll find out.

What is the Mortal Kombat 1 release date?

On September 19, Mortal Kombat 1 will be released for the PC (through Epic and Steam), PS5, Switch, and Xbox Series X/S. Users who pre-order will have access to a beta brawl in August. A Johnny Cage skin designed to resemble actor Jean-Claude Van Damme will be included in the $110 digital Premium Edition. It will also grant early access to playable characters and Kameo Fighters when available after the game’s launch. For $250, a physical Kollector’s Edition will come with a 16.5-inch Liu Kang sculpture, a matching in-game skin, art prints, and a customized case if you’re really committed.

The reveal trailer got us really hyped for the game’s launch, and I for one, can’t wait to “Get over here!” the game as soon as it is released!
