With MW2 and Warzone 2 still bringing plenty of players to Activision servers, we must not forget that their development cycle means that their next title is already right around the corner.
The Call of Duty series doesn’t really need an introduction. After 22 released titles, we all know what the deal is. Terrorists are threatening our way of life, and you and a ragtag team of soldiers or mercenaries are humanity’s last hope. Real 80s action movie stuff right there. But while the campaigns used to be a mere backdrop to the main course that is the multiplayer, recent games have turned that upside down.
Both MW1 and MW2 have had some very interesting campaigns, with a surprising amount of depth and nuance. Even though the gist of it is still “find bad guy, kill bad guy”, both campaigns tried their hardest to paint a more realistic picture of what modern combat is on the battlefield as well as the backdrop of those battlefields. With plenty of interesting characters to boot, both of them truly revolutionized what a Call of Duty campaign looks like.
And since both of these past Modern Warfare games have been very successful, it’s no surprise that a third title is getting polished for a release later this year. To start the hype train, Activision has just released a reveal trailer for Modern Warfare 3 that you can look at below. And if you’re itching for this new CoD game, Modern Warfare 3 will be out on November 10, 2023, with a worldwide reveal slated for August 17, 2023.
