Climbing has come a long way in the gaming world ever since the first Assassin’s Creed game took it to the next level.

The story of Jusant is rather simple, but it’s obvious that the developers have a keen focus on gameplay instead. A small tribe of people have lived on a tower of rock surrounded by water for centuries. But eventually, all of the water dried up leaving nothing but a desert around. Now you’ll be taking on the role of a teenager who is returning to the tower in an effort to reconnect with his old home and his past.

Gameplay will be mostly focused on making your way up the tower, interspersed with small moments where you have a calm moment to reminisce on certain parts of your character’s old existence. Puzzles can also be found from time to time, but clearly the emphasis is on the climbing aspects of the game. And these are great, mostly due to the accurate and satisfying controls. Paired up with the realistic usage of ropes and up to three pitons that you can place wherever you like, climbing has never felt so good.

And for that cuteness factor, the game also has a small water-like critter that seems to be your character’s pet. He will always be on your shoulder, offering little noises of affirmation as you make your way up the tower. Jusant is set to release on October 31 for the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. It will also see a day-one release for Game Pass.
