Famed creators of the Borderlands series might be next on the list of studios to be sold off by their owners.

After a long history of creating succesful games which include the estemeed Bordelands series, Gearbox might be up for grabs in the near future. Currently they are owned by a company called Embracer which have recently announced they might be selling in a Reuters article. And by the sound of it multiple third-parties are already expressing interest in this purchase. Neither of the companies have come out with a clear announcement yet.

Embracer seem to be going through some difficult times of restructuring. They’ve recently closed off Volition Studios which were well known for the Saints Row series. Whether this had anything to do with the lackluster success of the last game in the series is anybody’s guess though. Most of the problems Embracer has been facing seem to stem from a $2 billion deal that didn’t go through with the Savvy Games Group earlier this year. This forced them to announce that they would be closing studios and cancelling games.

All of this might also be due to the breakneck pace at which Embracer purchased studios in the last few years. These included Tomb Raider creators Crystal Dynamics and Gearbox themselves. Despite all of this, Gearbox shouldn’t be too worried about this situation. Their latest Borderlands games have done well for themselves and their Eli Roth led Borderlands film is still set to hit theaters sometime next year.
