The next instalment in the famous Assassin’s Creed series, Mirage, will take us into ninth-century Baghdad, the capital of Iraq, a middle eastern setting familiar to the original game.

The next game in the Assassin’s Creed series will definitely be one of the biggest and most expected titles in 2023. Mirage will introduce a young Basim in the streets of old Baghdad.

While Odyssey and Valhalla went deeper into the action-RPG areas, Assassin’s Creed Mirage is supposedly returning to the classic action-stealth gameplay, the game’s main idea. Mirage is set to feature an open world of reduced dimensions compared to the last games, as the game should focus on stealth, assassinations and parkour. The game should fill important parts of the greater Assassin’s Creed timeline.

Story, gameplay and more about the game

Assassin’s Creed Mirage will follow the steps of a young Basim, a Baghdad street thief. The story will go along with him becoming an apprentice and later on, a Master Assassin. In narrative director’s Sarah Beaulieu words, the game “follows the transformation of a defiant young man into a refined Master Assassin with a conflicted destiny”. The game will also uncover some mysteries about The Hidden Ones.

Mirage’s story is taking place in a beautiful Baghdad setting during the Golden Age, a few decades before the events in Valhalla. The city was considered almost the centre of the world at the time, called by the artistic director Jean-Luc Sala “a key place for knowledge, art, innovation, science, commerce, and power”. As the city was destroyed 5 centuries later, Ubisoft sought historic documents to recreate it as accurately as they could. Compared to the latest titles, the world will be a little bit smaller and divided into four districts.

The gameplay will return to the original idea of assassins, focusing on stealth, stunts and silent kills. Based on this, the play style will revolve around identifying, hunting, killing and disappearing, with lots of parkour in between. Ubisoft confirmed on its official website that Assassin’s Creed Mirage will have lots of new stunts

When will Assassin’s Creed Mirage be released?

Ubisoft confirmed that the game will be released in 2023, but there is no exact official date as of the moment. Based on a rumour from Insider Gaming, the title might come out in August 2023, but that has not yet been confirmed by the publisher. This was also discussed in a Reddit thread, justifying the above date.

What platforms will the game be available on?

Assassin’s Creed Mirage is confirmed to be released on PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X and S, Xbox One and on the PC. This is quite the regular Ubisoft launch, including a lot of platforms and making fans happy despite their choice.

As Assassin’s Creed Mirage is one of the biggest titles coming in 2023, we can’t wait to see if the game will return to its true nature, following the path of stealth. Big titles are coming out this year and hopefully, Basim will keep up.
