Despite having a lackluster launch, CD Projekt Red is still busy working on the upcoming expansion for their Sci-Fi RPG.

This December will mark three years since the disastrous launch of Cyberpunk 2077. Despite a lot of community backlash, CD Project Red has been slowly but surely patching out issues with the game while adding new content. And despite all of those issues, Cyberpunk 2077 is still a great RPG that fans of the setting need to try out. Soon enough, the first expansion for the game, titled Phantom Liberty, will come out. Here are some of the details that we know so far about this upcoming expansion.

Platforms

Sadly if you were hoping to run Phantom Liberty on old-gen consoles, CDPR already stated in 2022 that they’ve completely phased out support for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. This kind of makes sense since, on launch, the game performed horribly on them, to the degree that Sony temporarily removed the game from their store. This means that Phantom Liberty will only be available for PC, Xbox Series X/S, and PlayStation 5.

Even more star power

Alongside the return of Johnny Silverhand, played by Keanu Reeves, Phantom Liberty is adding another great actor into the fray. And that is Idris Elba, playing an FIA Agent called Solomon Reed. We don’t yet know how much we’ll get to see of him throughout the main campaign of the expansion, but it’s good to see new faces.

Gameplay and story

Regarding gameplay, we can expect the same mix of furious action with plenty of freedom in how you want to approach every encounter. The cop system will see a complete overhaul, so hopefully, they’ll stop spawning out of thin air behind you when you least expect it. Vehicle combat will also be enhanced but we don’t yet know what this means exactly.

CDPR has stated that the story will take V on an espionage mission for the New United States of America Government. While this could mean a bigger emphasis on stealth, we’re sure you’ll also have plenty of opportunities to go loud.

Future prospects

The main quest director for Cyberpunk 2077, Pawel Sasko, announced that him and his team have moved to the US city of Boston and have started work on a sequel. After the launch of Phantom Liberty, they will be primarily focusing on this sequel, codenamed Orion. This was what he tweeted last year:

“I’m moving to Boston together with the core team responsible for Cyberpunk 2077 to establish [the] new studio and be the foundation for the North American team. Working together with the Vancouver crew and the devs from Warsaw we are going to deliver you a banging next game!”

There is no official launch date for Phantom Liberty, but CDPR said that they are trying to launch it before the end of 2023. Phantom Liberty will be a paid expansion, but CDPR has not revealed the exact pricing.
