The sequel was announced at The Game Awards. The Kojima Productions owner and founder unveiled the teaser video and then remained on stage to answer some questions.

Kojima presented his next project, Death Stranding 2, on stage at The Game Awards. Alongside Norman Reedus and Lea Seydoux, its cast includes Elle Fanning, Shioli Kutsuna, and Troy Baker, all of whom are A-list actors. “The Walking Dead” protagonist brought a lot of attention to the game. He was one of the most loved characters in the show, Daryl Dixon.
Death Stranding 2 story was rewritten
After the teaser aired, Kojima said: “I had the story written before the pandemic, but after experiencing the pandemic, I rewrote the whole thing from scratch,” as an answer to Keighley after he asked him how did the pandemic affect the game. Assuming the situation in the world what pretty similar to the game’s story, he added: “I also didn’t want to predict any more future, so I rewrote it.”
For example, Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty was ahead of its time. The game depicted how quickly false information can spread online. It is known that Kojima has developed a somewhat infamous reputation for anticipating the future with his games. The themes of loneliness in the first Death Stranding also have some unsettling similarities to the COVID-19 lockdown. These would be implemented only a few months after the game’s release in 2019. So it makes sense that Kojima did not want to do this again.
When will the game be released?
There is no release date yet, but the game is most likely to be released in 2023.
Death Stranding was kind of a walking simulator
After launching in 2019, the game quickly became one of the most liked games, with people making fun that it is a walking simulator. Despite that, everyone enjoyed the game and some people say it might have been a better movie than a game. However, the game still reached over 10 million total players by the end of 2022.
One of the innovative things about the game was its online system, where you can connect and chat with other players despite it being a single-player game. Death Stranding was also the first game that came out of Kojima’s new studio, after separating from Konami.
