After the succesful release of Diablo 4, players lost interest pretty quickly and the launch of the first season didn’t do much to help with that.
It was clear from the get-go that Diablo 4 will be offering a ton of live service features, which includes seasonal content. Sadly for fans of the series, the first season didn’t bring a ton of players back to the game. And the main reason is that the endgame content is still a joke compared to what people were expecting. This is kind of par for the course for Diablo though, since Diablo 3 had an abysmal launch and it took more than a year before they finally brought the game to a decent state.
This is a direct quote from Diablo GM Rod Fergusson in an interview for Dexerto:
“When you look at the launch of the game and this first season, we see that as building a foundation on which we can build for the future. So, as we look at our quarterly seasons, and we look at our annual expansions, those are the things that we’re really focused on for our live service.”
From the sound of it, these yearly expansions will expand the lore of the game after the events from the main campaign. These expansions will also come packed with a new character, but all of this will come at a cost. Unlike the seasons which are free, all of these expansions will cost money. Whether this will actually pan out for Blizzard is yet to be seen, but I for one am eager to have good reason to return to the world of Sanctuary.
