With plenty of people still enjoying Elden Ring to the fullest, many are asking why the Nintendo Switch is seeing no love from the direction of From Software.

When Elden Ring came out back in 2022 it quickly became a huge success with gamers all across the globe. The developers at From already had a lot of experience under their belt after the Dark Souls series, basically creating a new genre, the Soulslike. What makes a game Soulslike? The main ingredients are a 3rd person perspective in a dark fantasy world where any wrong turn might spell your doom. Getting used to the death screen is a must if you don’t want to lose your sanity slowly.

After getting plenty of experience under their belt, From decided to turn everything they learned into an open-world masterpiece. And thus, Elden Ring was born to the applause of millions of players all over the globe who excitedly waited for its release. And the game was well worth the wait, winning countless awards and being lauded as one of the best open-world games in the history of gaming. And once you get past the difficult exterior, there is a lot to enjoy.

Is Elden Ring on Nintendo Switch?

To put it plainly, there is no Elden Ring on Switch, and as far as we know there are no plans for such a port. The reasoning behind it is probably related to limited hardware capabilities. As we all know, the Nintendo Switch runs on two potatoes duct-taped together, so it’s no surprise that a lot of games never see a port. Developers can obviously downgrade the visuals of their games for this system, but usually, doing so would mean a lot of development time and money.

Another reason is probably the fact that the Nintendo Switch is a console mostly catered to a more casual audience. And Elden Ring is a lot of things, but a casual game is definitely not one of them. So it would make sense that From Software would consider the effort to port Elden Ring to the Switch wouldn’t bring so many sales to make it worth it. It is clear that they have tested the water by launching Dark Souls Remastered on the Switch, but maybe the sales they saw were still rather low.

Will Elden Ring be on Switch?

If you’ve been listening to the rumor mill you’ve probably heard that Nintendo are slowly getting ready to announce their next console. While we don’t have any concrete information, a hardware upgrade is definitely on the horizon. This could mean better graphics and maybe even 4K resolutions. This could also mean that we might see an Elden Ring port for this new system. So until we know more about this upcoming console, we can only hope that we might get an alternative to the Steam Deck to play Elden Ring on the go.

In the meantime, if you want to play something similar to Elden Ring on Switch you should definitely try the already-mentioned Dark Souls Remastered if you haven’t had the chance of playing it yet. You can also pick up Remnant: From the Ashes which is an excellent Soulslike that emphasizes long-ranged combat alongside melee.
