Elden Ring developers have just released some statistics related to player deaths and other actions, and the numbers are simply impressive.

One of the most successful games of 2022, Elden Ring has sold over 20 million copies and gained countless Game of the Year awards. And this is simply because From Software managed to bring everything they learned with the Dark Souls series into an open-world setting. And while plenty of people were skeptical about how the somewhat linear recipe of Souls games would work in an open world, those sales numbers proved everyone wrong.

A testament to Elden Ring’s difficulty, players have died more than nine billion times. Most of those deaths are attributed to Malenia, one of the game’s hardest bosses. Players tried this fight more than 329 million times. Second in line is Margit the Fell Omen, with 281 million tries. This is somewhat surprising since Margit is the first serious boss fight in the game. But it also makes sense since players encounter him at their weakest.

But out of those nine billion deaths, 69% were at the hands of regular enemies and NPCs. 15% were due to status effects, 14% due to falls, and only 2% at the hands of other players. As far as spellcasting goes, Rock Sling took the top spot for spells, with Blessing of the Erdtree being the most used incantation.

Elden Ring is still one of the most played games on Steam, more than a year after launching. And the future looks bright since Elden Ring will be getting a DLC called “Shadow of the Erdtree”, with fans already spending hundreds of hours trying to figure out what this DLC will bring to the game.
