Two major studios are starting work on an interesting new action-adventure game with some samurai roots.

Developers over at Game Freak have just announced a new partnership with Private Division, a Take-Two subsidiary. Titled Project Bloom, the game will be an action-adventure game in a Japanese setting. And by the looks of the first concept art to come out for the game, it will probably have a sprinkle of fantasy instead of historical accuracy.

Director Kota Furushima from Game Freak released the following statement: “We’re thrilled to have the opportunity to create new IP that is bold and tonally different from our prior work. From the beginning, Private Division was the publisher we wanted to work with on our new game. Their track record and global expertise give us all the confidence to create a sweeping new action-adventure game that we can’t wait to share more about in the future.”

Given that Game Freak is most famous for the Pokemon series, it’s good to see them trying to branch out in new directions. And this would also be the first time they’re cooperating with a Western studio for a title unrelated to the Pokemon franchise.

Even though most of this sounds like good news, plenty of industry people are skeptical. Given the technical issues that Pokemon Scarlet and Violet suffered, many wonder if Game Freak is up to the task for such a big AAA project. Higher-ups from the studio have assured us that they’re fully up to the job. Project Bloom will be coming out sometime between April 2025 and March 2026.Ga
