Time is racing fast and the Gran Turismo movie release is getting closer.

What is the release date of the Gran Turismo movie?

The release date for Sony’s Gran Turismo movie, which is based on the popular racing simulator, has been set for August 11. To spark interest, the studio has also published an exciting first-look video. Here it is:

The Gran Turismo movie takes an original tack when it comes to video game adaptations, as the trailer makes clear. The movie is set in a universe where everyone is fascinated with Gran Turismo, rather than recreating the story of the well-known racing game franchise. The protagonists compete in a competition to determine the best virtual racer, and the winners have the chance to compete in actual races.

The movie is also inspired by the true account of professional racer Jann Mardenborough, who achieved popularity after taking first place in the GT Academy esports tournament in 2011 and then went on to compete in the famed Japanese Super GT series. As the trailer description reads: “Based on the true story of Jann Mardenborough, the film is the ultimate wish fulfilment tale of a teenage Gran Turismo player whose gaming skills won a series of Nissan competitions to become an actual professional racecar driver”.

About the production of the Gran Turismo movie

The movie is being produced by Asad Qizilbash and Carter Swan of PlayStation Productions, with Kazunori Yamauchi, the CEO of Polyphony Digital and the inventor of Gran Turismo, acting as executive producer.

Neill Blomkamp, the renowned filmmaker most known for his work on Demonic, Chappie, Elysium, and District 9, is in charge of the Gran Turismo movie. Jason Hall, who created the critically acclaimed picture American Sniper, and Zach Baylin, who most recently worked on the forthcoming feature King Richard is the one who created the script for the movie.
