The classic Bethesda lack of FOV slider curse has found its way to Starfield as well, but fear not, help is already here!
If you’ve been playing Starfield early access (or are reading this post-launch), and want to adjust your field of view (FOV) because the image is too zoomed in, here’s a simple and fast guide on how to do it. All credit for this efficient and neat trick goes to Redditor clu_sauce, who posted this on the Starfield subreddit earlier today.
How to adjust the FOV in Starfield
- Create a text file named
StarfieldCustom.ini
- Inside the text file, add these lines:
[Camera] fFPWorldFOV=100.0000 fTPWorldFOV=100.0000
- Copy the text file (StarfieldCustom.ini) and paste it into Starfield’s save data folder located:
Documents/MyGames/Starfield
And you’re done! Take note that in the first line, fFPWorldFOV controls the FOV for the First Person perspective, while fTPWorldFOV controls the FOV for the Third Person perspective. This simple trick works 100% as I’ve tested it myself, check out the screenshot below for an exaggerated, yet very cool effect. I’ve set my first-person perspective to 125 to get this effect, which is obviously overkill. As the default FOV for Starfield is 70, I think it’s safe to bet 100 would suffice for most people, but hey, feel free to fiddle around and find your FOV sweet spot for yourself. The only downside is that you will have to exit and enter the game every time you make a change to the .ini file.
Important! If this guide does not work for you, it’s probably because you have turned off “file name extension” under “view” > “show” panel in your folder options. Make sure to check it like in the image shown below, otherwise, you will end up with a filename called StarfieldCustom.ini.txt, which will simply not work.
I guess it wouldn’t be a Bethesda game if you are not creating .ini files within the game files, right? Good thing this simple trick came out so fast and we can game in peace at the desired field of view.
