Apple just announced their latest iPhone 15 Pro lineup of high-performance phones, which focus heavily on mobile gaming, bringing for the first time console/PC titles for mobile devices.

The big Apple Event for this fall has just ended with a bunch of announcements everybody was kind of expecting. Among them was the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max, a brand new phone line-up running on their latest A17 chip with “console-level and games” capabilities and performance that we haven’t seen before. The new chip is capable of RayTracing graphics with its brand new hardware-accelerated GPU, 4x faster than its predecessor, the A16 chip which had software-based graphics. This A17 new chip comes with a brand-new GPU with 6 cores, mesh shading, improved efficiency, and up 20% faster than its previous generation.

All this fancy talk and chip numbers come down to one thing: a much smoother experience for mobile gaming and a bright future for this niche. Apple officially stated that “iPhone is the best mobile gaming platform in the world”, which is not surprising as their Pro lineup has always prioritized gamers. The iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max are also compatible with modern Bluetooth controllers such as PS5’s DualSense.

Going further into the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max presentation, Ubisoft’s Fabrice Navarez, stated that Tom Clancy’s The Division Resurgence (a mobile title set to release in 2024) will have improved resolution, more dynamic lightning, and other visual effects, compared to other mobile devices. Other game developers promised new and shinier visuals and better overall performance for their games.

Most notably, the console versions of Resident Evil Village, and Resident Evil 4 (Remake), will be playable on the new iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max added Capcom director, Tsuyoshi Kanda. The upcoming Assassin’s Creed Mirage will be also available for the iPhone Pro lineup, and again, this will be the console/PC version and not some toned-down mobile port. This is excellent news, as mobile devices close the gap between PC/console and mobile gaming. The price for the iPhone 15 Pro starts at $799 (for the 128 GB version) and at $999 for the iPhone 15 Pro Max (for the 128 GB version) and will be available to purchase on September 22 worldwide.
