Fans of the Little Big Adventure series are excited by the announcement that a small indie company is working on remakes for both games in the series.

If you’re a 90s kid, you’ve probably heard of the Little Big Adventure series, also titled Twinsen’s Odyssey in certain regions. Developed by French developers Adeline Software International, the Little Big Adventure games were Action RPGs that offered a lot of features that were way ahead of their time. This included open-world mechanics, allowing you to explore the world at your own pace fully. NPCs had multiple dialogue options; in the second game, most were also fully voiced.

Even though the gameplay might seem clunky by today’s standards, it also had some unique features. The games featured a stance system, allowing you to switch between four different stances, each with a specific purpose. Your primary weapon was a bouncing ball that you could throw, and each of those stances also modified its behavior.

After the initial developers went under, so did this unique series. But a small team is now hard at work on a third entry into the series, and they’ve just now announced that they’re also fully remaking the first two games. They are doing this in Unreal Engine 5, and by the looks of it, they are nailing the visual style. Everything is beautifully rendered and looks like a toy set coming to life. A demo for the first game will be released during Steam Neo Fest (19-26 June 2023), and they’re hoping to launch both remakes in 2024, just in time for the 30th anniversary of the series.
