The Japanese studio behind this realistic FPS, NIHIL INANE STUDIO, amazed us yesterday with this impressive-looking gameplay footage captured in UE5.
Not much is known about NIHIL INSANE STUDIO apart from their Twitter and YouTube accounts. It seems they are an indie development group based in Japan focusing their efforts on developing Lost Fragment, a photorealistic horror first-person shooter, that reminds us of the ever-popular Unrecord game, a bodycam FPS title that amazed the world with its realistic UE5 graphics so much, that people started wondering if the game is even real.
Lost Fragment announcement trailer
The debut gameplay trailer of Lost Fragment presents us with an atmospheric walk inside what looks like an abandoned Japanese hospital. You get this eerie feeling that you’re not alone, something similar to the Resident Evil FPS series. In the trailer’s description, the developer mentions the game falls into the Survival Horror genre and it was developed using UE5. Another interesting note is that the demo showcased in this trailer was all handcrafted (models, textures, scenes, etc.) and not made using photogrammetry, which is the process of generating a 3D scene from a scan or photo.
We gradually got used to Unreal Engine 5 games looking life-like more and more, Lost Fragment being no exception. It’s funny how these indie developers (usually solo or duo projects) produce scenes that look and feel times better than most recent triple-A titles. It’s great seeing such talented developers try their hand at this amazing piece of game development software which is Unreal Engine 5.
