It seems that some secret plans for Bethesda titles have just been leaked.
Microsoft has been on a buying spree for quite some time, and they can definitely afford it. They’re buying developers left and right with no end in sight, with the latest purchases being focused on indie studios that could churn out games for their Xbox Game Pass platform. But one of the biggest purchases they made in the past is definitely acquiring ZeniMax Media, which owns Bethesda and id Software.
A recent leak of some Microsoft documents showed that ZeniMax Media already had plans for multiple remakes of classic games from Bethesda and id. And it looks like Microsoft is planning to go forward with these remakes. Here are the games that will be getting a remake in the near future:
- An Oblivion remaster which was first slated for 2022
- A Fallout 3 remaster which is set to launch in 2024
- Even though it had middling success, Ghostwire: Tokyo will be getting a sequel in 2024
- After the Redfall fiasco, it looks like Arkane will be getting back to their bread and butter with Dishonored 3 which will be coming out in 2024
- Doom Year Zero DLC which is planned for 2023 plus future DLC coming out in 2024
Alongside these remakes, there are also a few titles that have no working title yet:
- Something titled Project Platinum
- Project Kestrel which was slated for 2023 and a full expansion for it coming out in 2024
- An Indiana Jones game that has been rumored since 2022
It looks like both Bethesda and id Software are hard at work creating these titles with a very busy 2024 schedule ahead of them. While not all of these rumors have been fully confirmed, it’s safe to assume that most of these titles will eventually see the light of day. Personally, I’m most excited about the Fallout 3 remaster, since Fallout 76 is still a joke of a game and Fallout 4 didn’t really do much for me. If this remaster sells well I can only hope that a Fallout: New Vegas remake might also see the light of day sometime in the future.
Alongside these plans for new games and remasters, the leak also showed that Microsoft might be considering purchasing Nintendo, even though I doubt Nintendo would ever be willing to sell. It also showed that Microsoft is planning to launch a new generation of Xbox consoles by 2028. If this is true they might be the first ones to make the leap to nextgen, even though this ended up biting them in the ass in the past (I’m looking at you Xbox 360 with your red rings of death).
The Xbox Series X will also be getting a makeover in 2024, with a new controller nicknamed Sebille in tow. This new console will offer 2TB of storage with a USB-C plug for power. This new version of the Xbox Series X will be priced at $499. Despite their troubles with the Activision/Blizzard purchase, it looks like Microsoft is still keeping its eyes set on the future of its consoles and games.
