The Armored Core games are focused on fast-paced 3rd person mecha combat. Older games in the series were primarily single-player oriented, with Armored Core 4 and 5 adding multiplayer.

Customization of your mech is a big part of the games, allowing you to build your ideal setup. Depending on the mission, you can opt for short-range or long-range weapons and a large variety of utility modules. Melee weapons are also present, allowing you to jetpack your way on top of your enemies and bash them to shreds.

As far as the story goes, older games had you take on the role of a mercenary fighting his way across a futuristic universe. Each mission you complete will net you money, allowing you to upgrade and enhance your mecha.

What will Armored Core 6 bring to the table?

As far as we know, Armored Core 6 will take place on a planet called Rubicon 3. This world is where various corporations battle for a “mysterious substance” that has caused a planetary catastrophe. While the older games in the series are also pretty bleak, the tone of Armored Core 6 is more akin to the Dark Souls series. You will face a broken world where resources are scarce, and getting more will require you to fight tooth and nail for them.

The developers at From Software have looked at the older games in the series and what made them special. They seem to be fully aware that players loved the assembly aspect of the game. This is why they will allow even greater customization of your mech, including aesthetic elements.

Taking a note from Sekiro, the game will feature a posture system. Even when attacking heavily armored targets, if you keep accurately pummeling them, you will eventually break their “posture” and inflict critical damage. This system will force you to be as aggressive as possible when in combat, constantly pressuring your enemies until you turn them to dust.

For the first time in the series, From Software is going for a more open-world dynamic after the success that Elden Ring garnered. You will have more freedom in approaching missions while maintaining the challenge level.

Multiplayer will also be present, similar to older games in the series. This means that we will be getting a classic team-versus-team game mode. If that sounds archaic, From Software has hinted that they have a few surprises lined up for multiplayer.

Armored Core 6 will be coming out sometime in 2023 for PC, Playstation 4/5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S. From Software will give us more details and some gameplay footage in the coming months. So if you’re a mecha enthusiast, stick around.
