Mortal Kombat will have brand-new Origin Stories.
Ed Boon, the co-creator of Mortal Kombat, just teased fans about how each character’s origin story in Mortal Kombat 1 will be completely new. With the release of a Mortal Kombat 1 trailer last week, NetherRealm Studios made its upcoming game project public. Ever since it was revealed during a call with senior WB executives during an earnings period, its existence has been one of the worst-kept secrets of 2023. Regardless, the new teaser displayed a lot of the game, including its signature gory fatalities and a release date for later in the year.
NetherRealm revealed a lot of game-related elements after its title was officially revealed. This includes the fact that it is not literally a continuation of the events of the DLC, but rather the beginning of a new universe that was created after the canon ending of Mortal Kombat 11 Aftermath. Liu Kang claimed that the New Era of this game would have the characters playing entirely different roles from those of their counterparts from the earlier chronology. As Ed Boon said, the shifting of positions would undoubtedly have an impact on how some characters interact.
New Origin Stories confirmed by Ed Boon
This came as an answer to a Twitter post, where one user was a little bit confused about who created Mileena in this new timeline. In the previous ones, Mileena was created by no other than Shang Tsung. This could get really interesting as there is complete freedom regarding her origin story. We for one, are really excited about finding out the truth.
All this (plus more) will be revealed in the Mortal Kombat 1 story mode. Lots of “origin stuff” 😀🐉 https://t.co/r0beArKBsr

In Mortal Kombat 1, several other characters should also have new origin stories in addition to Mileena’s. This was also somewhat hinted at in the game’s trailer, which showed how mortal enemies or rivals like Scorpion and Sub-Zero team together to fight as allies. This will surely result in some crazy combinations and variations in the fighting game.
By confirming Mileena, the developers also avoided the MK11 drama, where her not being included caused some major inconveniences for the fans. The characters confirmed so far are Liu Kang, Raiden, Kitana, Kung Lao, Mileena, Sub-Zero, and Scorpion. Other characters like Peacemaker, Homelander, Omni-Man, Ermac, Takeda, and Quan Chi are supposedly coming to the game as too as claimed by Kotaku in this post.
That being said, we really can’t wait for September to come so we can get our hands on the game and smash those controllers.
