Even though Multiversus gained some popularity when it came out as a beta, recently, it’s been losing players left and right.

Warner Bros. Games have just announced that their platform fighting game Multiversus will be ending its open beta in three months. The developers over at Player First have promised that the game will be returning in 2024. But until then, the game will be unplayable.

Multiversus was first launched in July of 2022 as a direct contender to Super Smash Bros. Just like the Nintendo fan favorite, Multiversus offers easy to learn platform fighting with a varied cast of characters. If you’ve ever dreamed of taking on Superman with Looney Tunes characters, then Multiversus can give you just that. The game quickly gained plenty of popularity, becoming one of the most played games on Steam. Currently, the lack of updates or new characters has slowly seen player numbers dwindle. Seeing a game with an all-time high player count in the hundreds of thousands go down to hundreds is disheartening.

This post from the official website announced that Player First had learned a lot of things throughout the Open Beta. And while fans are worried that the game might not actually return, they have promised it will be back and better than ever. Another issue that fans are upset about is microtransactions. Multiverus had a fully developed cosmetic shop and a battle pass system. Warner Bros. Games are not offering any refunds, to the dismay of people who have invested money into Multiversus. We will have to wait and see if this is just a marketing trick not to accept defeat or just another step to a successful relaunch.
