For fans of the simulation genre, The Sims is an iconic series that tries to give you full control over the lives of AI humanoids.
If you haven’t been living under a rock, you’ve definitely heard of The Sims. A groundbreaking game series that truly put the sim in the word simulation, The Sims has spawned three sequels and too many expansion packs to count. And I’m serious about the expansion packs, all together there must be over 50 of them at least. The latest iteration of the series is The Sims 4, and people are wondering if there is a Sims 4 Nintendo Switch port out there. So let’s find out together and look to the future of this series.
Sims on Switch?
Even though The Sims 4 came out three years before the Switch, plenty of people are still wondering about a Sims 4 Nintendo Switch port. And the simple answer is that no, there is no port, and there probably never will be one. While hardware limitations shouldn’t be an issue, there are other issues when trying to port such a game to a console. For one, the control scheme would be hard to pull off. Even though Sims games have been brought to consoles before, personally I still think that trying to control such a game from a gamepad is a pain.
Plenty of people might be accepting of finicky controls, but sometimes playing a simulation game with a gamepad might feel like a chore. Certain tasks that can be done with three clicks suddenly require multiple button presses while you struggle with the analog stick. So, even though there has been an abundance of rumors about a possible port, we will probably never see it happen for the Nintendo Switch.
Future promises
Despite Sims for Nintendo Switch not being a reality, EA has recently announced that a sequel is in the works. Currently titled Project Rene, the game is still years away but promises some exciting things. For one, it promises to give players full control over creating their own furniture and construction pieces. This means the possibilities could be endless, allowing you to fiddle with your creations until everything is just how you want it. And as a fan of the series, I have to say this sounds very enticing.
While we don’t know a lot about this upcoming title yet, it will definitely be coming out on multiple platforms. If the Switch will be one of those consoles is still up to debate, especially since a new Nintendo console is on the horizon. So while we probably won’t be seeing it on the Switch, we could see a port for the Switch 2. All in all, fans of the series should be excited by the prospect of playing a new Sims game on the go, especially for those that travel a lot.
