Titled PlayStation Portal, Sony just gave us the first bits of information about their upcoming portable device.
After rumors started popping up earlier this summer about an upcoming portable console from Sony, plenty of people were somewhat wary. Given how they handled the PlayStation Vita and pretty much left it for dead, a lot of people thought this is a generally bad idea from Sony. But it seems like Sony is moving forward with a new device called PlayStation Portal.
The PlayStation Portal is not an actual console, instead, it’s a PS5 controller with an 8-inch screen slotted in the middle. All the features that a DualSense 5 controller has will be present here, including haptic feedback and adaptive triggers. The device will apparently be able to connect to your Wi-Fi and stream games directly from your PS5. This sounds great for people who have to share their TV with roommates or family members, or if they simply want to game from a different room. It will also feature a 3.5 mm audio jack for headphones, as well as the newly announced PlayStation Link technology that will make it compatible with the upcoming PlayStation Pulse Elite headset and Pulse Explore earbuds.
PlayStation Portal will be coming out sometime later this year and will cost $199.99. Sony has said that preorders will be starting soon and we’ll also get more information about the handheld device in the coming months.
