As time passes, we are getting closer and closer to next month’s PSVR2 launch. Sony’s accessory is now available for preorder in advance of its release on the 22nd of February.
Sony’s first big PlayStation 5 accessory – PSVR2
As an upgrade to the PSVR, the new appendage will be targeted exclusively at PS5 owners. PSVR2 will be the next step in terms of virtual reality, and the specs look pretty amazing. Sony promised that when it will be released, customers will be able to experience incredible improvements in performance and interactivity. The headset will be equipped with integrated cameras which can properly set up the playground, increasing safety. Let’s see what are the exact technical specifications for the upcoming VR tool.
Technical specs for the PSVR2
Sony goes big with the specs on this one, with incredible new features which will definitely change the virtual reality experience. The accessory will feature a 4k resolution with 2000×2040 for each eye, displayed on a shiny HDR OLED with a staggering refresh rate of up to 120hz. As for the field of view, it will be 110 degrees, allowing for an incredible virtual reality experience.
The headset has a six-axis motion sensor and integrated cameras which scan the surroundings and alert you when you get closer to the edges. One of the greatest new features is eye tracking, bringing the field of view much closer to reality. On top of all that, the headset and the controllers both have new and improved haptic feedback, pushing the virtual reality boundaries even more.
How much will the virtual reality tool cost?
As we speak, the preorder prices for the PSVR2 are $549.99, £529 or €599.99. This includes the headset, the stereo headphones that can be linked with it, and a pair of VR2 Sense controllers. For a little extra money, you can pre-order the Horizon Call of the Mountain bundle, which includes the game present amongst the most expected titles coming in 2023.
When will the PSVR2 launch?
The VR set will be released on the 22nd of February. But until then, you can pre-order it on the official site.
The virtual reality market is expanding like never before
To be honest, the PlayStation VR tool has quite tough competition: the Oculus Quest 2 and HTC Vive Pro. The competitor accessories have similar specs but Sony’s eye tracking seems to be unique. As for the price part, the PSVR2 costs a decent amount compared to Vivo Pro which is selling for more than double.
At the moment, Sony has a much smaller game collection for the PSVR2, as Quest 2 has a massive library of games and Vive Pro 2 has the full force of Steam backing it up.
We might want to be cautious regarding the upcoming virtual reality experiences, as the specs are getting exponentially better and we might enjoy them too much!
