13 years after its release, Red Dead Redemption made its way to the PlayStation 5. Sort of…
I woke up this morning thinking, oh boy, today I’m going to play Red Dead Redemption on my PS5, I can’t wait to enjoy Rockstar’s classic western in 4k and 60 frames per second. Boy, was I disappointed to discover that the game is limited to 30 frames per second (on both PS4 and PS5), just like its original release on PlayStation 3. This is a huge disappointment for the gaming community as a whole, and especially for long-time Rockstar fans who were hoping to at least replay the nostalgic Red Dead Redemption and its zombie DLC, Undead Nightmare, in next-gen performance if not remastered or even remade.
Red Dead Redemption PS5 60 FPS option
It goes without saying that in this day and age, when a game is being re-released at a price of $50, you should at least be able to play the game in 60 FPS. Well, at the moment the new PS4 version of Red Dead Redemption, which you can play on the PS5 via backwards compatibility, does not have a 60 fps option in its display settings. In desperation, I’ve taken to Twitter to ask Rockstar Support if the PS4 version of Red Dead Redemption will be getting a 60fps option in an upcoming update. Fingers crossed for a positive answer.
@RockstarSupport Will the PS4 (and PS5 backwards compatibility) version of Red Dead Redemption have a 60-fps option in a future update? It would be wonderful to enjoy this masterpiece in 60 frames per second.

The game however runs in 4K, which is a great touch and looks great from a resolution point of view. It would be hilarious if RDR was running in HD (1280×720) just its original PS3 release. Though, there weren’t any enhancements added to the game, such as better textures, models, or graphics (sort of like a remastered version). It’s such a shame. It’s not every day you re-release one of one decade-old classics, so why not make it proper by releasing it on all platforms, including the PC? Fans will surely press Rockstar to add these features (the support for 60 frames per second on the PS4 and PS5 versions), as well as a release for the PC. For what it is right now, I think $50 is quite a steep price for the PS4/PS5 version of Red Dead Redemption, given all the shortcomings mentioned above.
