After countless rumors about a possible remake of the first Red Dead Redemption game, the latest announcement from Rockstar left fans with a sour taste in their mouth.

The rumor mill has been spinning for a while regarding a potential remake for Red Dead Redemption. After the sequel gained all the gaming awards with multiple truckloads of money to boot, people started speculating about a possible remaster for the first title. And finally, we have an official announcement from Rockstar. And to everyone’s surprise, it wasn’t exactly what they expected. Apparently they will be relaunching the first RDR for the Nintendo Switch and the PlayStation 4. And no, it won’t be a remaster or anything, it’s exactly the same game. At a price point of $50.

Now, before you reach for your pitchfork, you have to at least give thanks that they’re not asking $70 for it. Ever since the fiasco that was the GTA Trilogy remaster, people have been wary of any Rockstar remake announcement. A large part of the audience are simply calling it a “lazy port”, and when you look at the facts they’re not far from the truth. While plenty of people were imagining a Red Dead Redemption remake in the newest Rockstar engine, the reality is kind of sad.

Red Dead Redemption is still a great game worthy of your time, but I see little reason to buy this “new” version unless you missed it when it first came out. But for those who mostly game on the Switch for example and have never played it, this might be an ideal opportunity to pick it up.
