Sons of the Forest, the sequel to the 2018 game, The Forest, will feature an AI companion for players that will go through the game alone. This was revealed thanks to IGN in a hands-on preview.
Sons of the Forest is a horror survival title developed by Endnight Games. The game is a sequel to The Forest, which was pretty popular back in 2018. The first game was well known for the horror thrills it succeeded in throwing around, together with survival tactics the players needed. Basically, you found yourself in a creepy forest, facing a savage tribe of cannibals and dreadful mutants. Sounds good, right?
The recent hands-on preview posted by IGN teases some of the features of the upcoming game. The game is pretty much similar to the first one in terms of location, building mechanics and story. What makes Sons of the Forest so interesting? Well, one thing that is not present in the first game is AI companions.
In the video, we can see the player meets an elite soldier and the start of the game, called Kevin. The AI companion is unable to communicate, thanks to a major head injury(poor fella), but he proves to be useful. This is due to his ability to perform simple tasks for the player, like gathering resources.
Developers decided to add this cool thing for players that decide to go through Sons of the Forest alone. It seems like a great idea as the second game is supposedly a bit nastier in terms of actual horror. The AI companion is a great idea as it assists the player and can be of service to gather things, fight and maybe even craft. It will also surely kill loneliness and help enjoy the game better.
When will Sons of the Forest be released?
The game will be released in February 2023 as announced by Endnight Games. Initially, the game was supposed to launch in late 2021, but it got pushed to early 2022. However, they were still not able to launch it as the developers say the game was just too much to create in such a short amount of time. They decided to give the development process more time for the assurance of desired results.
As the first game was one of the greatest open-world survival horror games of its time, together with DayZ and Rust, which were pretty young back then.
All we can say is that next month when the game will be released, we will see for ourselves if the second title will live up to the expectations of The Forest and if all the praise and built hype are well deserved. Until then, let’s hope for the best from the upcoming Sons of the Forest.
