A new Steam Beta update is letting you watch movies while playing your favourite games.

The biggest Steam Beta update in a while

Yay, we are finally getting some major improvements! Valve has released the next set of modifications and new features that will be included in the forthcoming Steam Beta update, the most significant of which is a full rework of Steam’s in-game overlay. The feature was mostly used to talk with friends or check on stuff connected to the game you were playing, but the current version has added a slew of additional capabilities as well as a redesigned UI for greater customization.

Basically, this update will greatly increase the experience of players that game on only one screen.

The in-game overlay is one of the most significant improvements. It now has a toolbar that may be used to access other programs or anything else you could require while gaming. You may talk with your pals, look at achievements or tutorials, and even use a web browser if necessary. Depending on the game, this may be quite useful, but another useful feature included in this version allows you to attach windows within the overlays so they display in-game.

Wario64 of Twitter noticed that you can also pin a web browser and watch movies. Okay, now that’s something. While Valve created this functionality primarily to allow users to rapidly access manuals, conversations, or the new notes app, there’s nothing stopping you from attaching a web page to the game screen while gaming. Therefore, you can go to Netflix or another streaming service, launch a TV show or movie you wish to watch, pin the web browser to your game, and view your selected piece of media.

The new Notes app is another cool thing about the update, as you can write down objectives, targets, basically everything. On top of this, you can pin the window and make it transparent so you can have it visible at all times, without fully causing any visual issues. The update also contains a fresh new Screenshot Manager and improved notifications. The new Steam Beta update looks really promising to be honest.

Naturally, this isn’t anything that’s been formally released yet. It’s now only available for people who have signed up for the Steam Client Beta, an option that enables users to try out fresh functions before the rest of the world.

If you want to check the full Steam Beta update notes, you can easily do it here, on the Steam Community official page. Also if you are struggling with getting access, you can check Steam’s guide on how to sign up for the Beta program. However, please keep in mind that being a beta test feature, you might experience bugs. That being said, we can’t wait to see the update go live!
