Paradox confirms the upcoming story pack DLC called First Contact, after several leaks spread on the internet.

With its upcoming First Contact narrative pack DLC, Stellaris, the futuristic grand strategy game will take a step back from the stars and concentrate on pre-FTL civilizations. After information, pictures, and a teaser were leaked on SteamDB ahead of time, Paradox revealed the DLC today, just a few hours ago.

Along with the teaser for the DLC, YouTuber Aspec also posted a video about the leak, which has now been switched to private. The official trailer has now been posted on the official Stellaris YouTube channel.

The story pack’s description sounds like this: “You are not alone! The galaxy is vast and full of wonders, but it’s also full of alien empires you’re going to encounter, whether you’re ready or not. First Contact offers a set of new origins and mechanics that give players the chance to tell stories about their civilizations’ early encounters with visitors from the stars — ones that may not have come in peace!”. The DLC will feature three origins that can be chosen to play with. The established post-FTL civilisations will receive new ways to interact with different species. The pack will also feature cloaking, something that game director Stephen Muray tried to add to the game for a long time, as he told Rockpapershotgun.

When will the First Contact DLC be released?

Unfortunately, the Paradox team did not provide any detailed information but we can expect to see the DLC during the second half of the year.

The upcoming DLC was also teased in a Dev Diary posted on the Paradox forum. The text was teasing that something related to the first contact scenarios is coming soon for Stellaris. Part of the post mentioned: “We understand that this is all very sudden. Receiving a transmission ‘from the stars’ has likely come as a surprise to you, but we’ve been watching your world for some time and your civilization scores very highly on several relevant metrics”.

About Stellaris

A 4X grand strategy video game that was created by Paradox Development Studio and published by Paradox Interactive. Players in Stellaris assume command of an interstellar civilisation on the galactic stage. They are entrusted with exploring, colonizing, and administering their sector of the galaxy.  All this while coming into contact with other civilizations with whom they can then engage in trade, diplomacy, or combat.

Dealing with both programmed and emergent events—through which enormous crises threaten the galaxy, new empires upset the balance of power, or event chains reveal the history of vanished civilizations—takes up a significant portion of the game.

Paradox seems to be getting ready for a lot of content this year, as we can see in their partnership with Triumph Studios, getting ready for Age of Wonders 4 this May!
