Nintendo is well known for the same successful franchises for the past 30 years, and The Legend of Zelda is clearly one of their most successful IPs.
Eiji Aonuma who was a lead producer on Tears of the Kingdom has just given an interview to Famitsu where he stated that Nintendo has no plans to release any DLC for the game. Instead, they are moving full steam ahead on a new game. It looks like the reasoning behind this is the fact that they consider they’ve offered plenty of content with the base game. This is in stark contrast with Breath of the Wild that did receive an Expansion Pass that brought new items to the game as well as Master Mode and Hero’s Path Mode.
To many fans of Nintendo this comes as a surprise given the immense success that both of these games have seen. Tears of the Kingdom sold 18.51 million units by June 30, which is less than three months since its launch. That is an insane number by itself, while also being more than half of the total sales for Breath of the Wild, which came in at 30.65 million.
Even though Nintendo is already focusing towards this future project, Aonuma has not been clear on whether this game will be a follow-up in the same Hyrule as these past two games or a completely new take on the series. I would wager it will be the latter, since Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom are the only two games in the series to have clear continuity.
