Fans of the original Test Drive Unlimited games can sign up for a beta trial to play test the franchise’s latest instalment; Solar Crown, but there’s a catch!
Following their second TDU Solar Crown details and the gameplay reveal showcase in #TDUConnect, Nanco has sent a newsletter email titled Playtest #1 for fans of the game who want to try out the closed beta version of Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown. But there’s a catch, there are some very strict rules to follow in order to get in.

To complete the application form, you would need to be subscribed to TDU Solar Crown’s newsletter prior to this newsletter (pssst, here’s the application form link).
Solar Crown closed playtest rules
Rule #1. Selected members will have to sign the NDA (Non-Disclosure Agreement) sent by Nacon.
Rule #2. Playtest #1 will be performed under strictly confidential conditions. Selected members must not share any information about this game/test with any third parties, social media or public platforms.
Rule #3. Selected members must use the same email adress during the whole process including: registration form, NDA signature, in-game registration and feedback survey.
Key dates for Playtest #1:
– 21/07 to 23/07: Registration Form
– 25/07 to 29/07: NDA signature
– 31/07: Steam code delivery
– 31/07 to 02/08: Playtest #1
– 03/08 to 06/08: Feedback survey
Other rules include the following requirements:
- Being 18 years old or more.
- Having a PC with the minimum requirements listed below.
- Having a Steam account.
- Having a Discord account.
- Speaking English to be able to give feedback to the development team.
So, if you’re lucky enough to get picked, you will have just three days to signup for the closed playtest (July 21st – July 23rd). Afterwards, you’ll be signing the NDA document (July 25th – July 29th), and finally receive the game in the form of a Steam code on the 31st of July.
The playtest will begin July 31st and last three days until August 2nd. The feedback survey process will take place between August 3rd and August 6th.
Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown system requirements
Minimum requirements:
- Operating system: Windows 10, 64-bit (22H2 and up)
- Processor: Intel Core i5-10600K or AMD Ryzen 5 3600XT
- Memory: 12 GB RAM
- GRAPHICS: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2070, 8 GB or AMD Radeon RX 6650 XT, 8 GB
- SSD
PS: The above minimum system requirements apply only to this closed playtest, and do not represent the system requirements for the official game launch.
Conclusions
It’s very interesting to see an NDA requirement as part of the beta testing. Some players might be scared off by this legal document just for a chance to playtest Solar Crown for a couple of days.
Personally, I am extremely curious if the gameplay style will be similar to the first Test Drive Unlimited, which is definitely one of my favourite open-world racers. I hope they nail that perfect blend between simulation driving and arcade, also known as “simcade” that the first game had.
