All The Last of Us Part 1 PC bugs in one article

the last of us bugs

The Last of Us PC bugs are overthrowing the game. Naughty Dog is trying to make up for it and Steam reviews are tearing the game apart.

That being said, let’s see what this drama is all about.

The Last of Us Part 1 bugs on PC

I think we can agree that the Last of Us Part 1’s PC version is pretty bad. We’re talking about random crashes, lots of shader bugs, and all the outraged Steam reviews that are incredibly bad. It’s a disastrous scenario for a high-profile Sony game and the latest in a string of dreadfully bad PC ports.

However, let’s see the most common bugs players encountered:

  • Shaders – numerous players complained that The Last of Us PC shaders loading takes a lifetime. When the shaders are loading, the performance is also quite erratic and jerky. That doesn’t seem well for a game of this high quality.
  • Game not starting – several players also complained that the game is simply not starting, despite having powerful setups.
  • Memory leaks – a bugged version of Oodle caused serious memory leak issues.

The entire situation is funny as hell

Most of the bugs turn this into a comedy, assuming we can see the good part in bad situations. Joel and Ellie’s hair went mad and looked like it was dipped in wax and mud at the same time.

The Rasta of Us

I said Rasta hair, not pasta! The Last of Us Part 1 bugs even made Joel look like he aged prematurely due to all the stress caused by the infected ones. Or maybe because of Ellie too. However, these shader issues really messed up their hair.

Discovering El Dorado, but with neon pixels

However, you can say that some bugs are actually looking really cool. Take this one for example:

How do I fix this?

Maleficent-Guard-456 of Reddit asked how can this be fixed. Why would you like to fix this? People like Indiana Jones or several other explorers were in their search for El Dorado their entire life, and you found it in The Last of Us PC Port, why would you like to fix it?

The last of the swimmers

But the bug that just marinates everyone is one of the strangest and greatest ones we’ve ever seen. The funniest thing in gaming I have seen lately has been generated by a glitch in the coding, causing drops to fly everywhere with every move of Joel’s face.

The game just follows its natural course then boom, everyone starts to get wet and feel like they just returned from a diving lesson. The Last of Us Part 1 bugs are funny but this one is just insane. Just watch the video.

Elastic girl

From the collection of The Last of Us Part 1 bugs that are hilarious, sometimes, Joel’s daughter might panic and start wobbling around like crazy. What did they shoot her with?

Living in a world full of glass

Redditor Itzaro1321 experienced a bug where as soon as Joel enters the water, it all turns to glass. This probably hurts like hell but apparently, he doesn’t react. How strange.

Did you try to take the lid off?

Some players are experiencing an odd bug where the sniper’s scope provides no vision. We should ask them, did you try to take the cap off, in case it has one?

Jokes aside, following the high number of complaints, Naughty Dog released an official statement on their Twitter page:

Following the statement, the first of many hotfixes to come were slowly deployed.

Naughty Dog released more than one hotfix

Since the game launched on PC, a number of hotfixes were released to solve most of the issues. You should also check this on Nvidia’s site regarding a driver update.

The first one resolved the following issues:

  • Fixed several performance & hitch-related issues impacting some users.
Note: Additional improvements and investigations based on user feedback are underway.
  • Added extra crash diagnostic information to assist in investigating shader building-related crashes and other commonly reported stability issues.

While the second one did good for the following:

  • Decreased PSO cache size to reduce memory requirements and minimize Out of Memory crashes
  • Added additional diagnostics for developer tracking purposes
  • Increased animation streaming memory to improve performance during gameplay and cinematics
  • Fix for crash on first boot

The latest patch out of the three hotfixes solved most of the remaining issues, greatly improving stability, but there is still much to be done.

  • Fixed an issue which could cause the Xbox controller stick inputs to erroneously read as zeros for brief periods of time
  • Fixed an issue where the ‘Reset to Default’ function in the Graphics menu under Settings could make improper selections
  • Fixed an issue where the HUD performance monitors could impact performance when enabled
  • Fixed an issue where a crash could occur when using [ALT+ENTER] to toggle between Fullscreen and Windowed modes
  • Fixed an issue where a memory crash could occur during the transition from the end of the game into the credits sequence
  • Fixed an issue that could cause a crash while the game launched
Added additional crash report logs to provide further insight for developers

That being said, we can see that the Last of Us Part 1 bugs drama is slowly fading, but the negative reviews still remain. Personally, I’ll wait for a couple more weeks before giving it a go on PC. What do you think about this all? Did you find any cool bugs you would like to see in our article? Feel free to let us know!
