Telltale Games have just announced that they’ve delayed The Wolf Among Us 2, so it won’t be coming out in 2023.
The Wolf Among Us was a pretty successful adventure game that came out in 2013. It’s based on a comic book series called Fables that reimagines the world of fairytales in a modern-day noir setting. Classic fairytale characters have escaped their original magical lands due to an imminent threat called The Adversary. They’ve set up a shop in Fabletown, located in Manhattan. The game puts you in the shoes of Bigsby Wolf (formerly The Big Bad Wolf) as you try to help the community of Fabletown as their Sherrif.
The first game received plenty of praise from critics, lauded as a great adventure game with a pretty mature story. This is why fans were sad to hear that the sequel has just been delayed out of its initial 2023 release. Jamie Ottilie, CEO of Telltale Games, tried to explain that the most significant setback to this release was the switch from Unreal Engine 4 to Unreal Engine 5. He noted that a lot of the work already done in UE4 needed a lot of work to be integrated into UE5, since UE5 has many new features. Add the fact that they obviously want to make a great game and you have all the ingredients for a delay.
The Wolf Among Us 2 was revealed in 2019 at The Game Awards and was set to launch in 2023. No new release date was announced, but it will definitely come out sometime in 2024. It will be available for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
