Vampire Survivors is an indie favorite that came out of nowhere in 2021. The insane success that it garnered shocked the sole developer.
Due to this success, they started adding more and more content to the game, coming out of Early Access recently with their 1.0 update. But his mission isn’t over, launching patch 1.1, which adds a new stage, a new character, plus a slew of much-needed fixes. Among these fixes, the developers have mentioned improved loading times, a better pause menu, and more.
New Features
The new stage that has been added is called Tiny Bridge. The announcement states that your character is caught between two warring factions fighting atop a bridge. Space is pretty tight on this map, making close-quarters abilities an excellent choice. Make sure you don’t get stuck inside one of the map’s many choke points, as a tiny mistake could spell your doom.
This patch also adds a new character called Scorej-Oni. He is an ancient creature inspired by Japanese folklore since Oni are a mix of a Demon and an Orc. His unique ability is that he gets a hidden Lightning Ring every eight levels (up to a maximum of six). This unique Lightning Ring will also fire when you get hit, making tank builds with high regen very viable for this character. Unlocking him is relatively easy. When playing the Tiny Bridge map, you’ll encounter him if you keep advancing to the right. After defeating him, he becomes a playable character.
The new power-up is called Seal, and it gives you the option of banishing an item from your level-up choices. You can also use it to ban a pickup from your light choices. This will allow you to increase your chances of finding the upgrades that you genuinely want.
Achievements and the future
Patch 1.1 also adds two new achievements to the game. One of them will unlock the Tiny Bridge challenge map. To unlock it, you must reach level 80 in Inverse Gallo Tower. The second achievement will unlock after you banish ten items in a single run with the new Seal power-up.
The future of this game is looking bright, with the developers constantly adding new content. It also enjoys a lot of success on the Steam Deck since the game controls are very easy, catering perfectly to a portable console. So if you’re a fan of roguelike or old-school arcade games, definitely give Vampire Survivors a try if you haven’t already.
