Chucklefish, a famed indie game publisher, has just announced Wargroove 2. It is currently being developed by Robotality, an indie studio that has garnered a lot of success with the first title.
The first Wargroove game was an indie hit that recreated the spirit of the Advance Wars titles. Featuring turn-based combat with RPG elements mixed in, Wargroove allowed you to choose between 15 different commanders. Each of these commanders had their own campaign and personality traits. After taking command of their faction, you were pitted against enemy factions vying for control of Aurania. The game offered various paths that you could take on your campaign. And if single-player got boring after a while, Wargroove also had multiplayer with versus missions or cooperative play.
Wargroove 2 is set three years after the story of the first title. A new faction that controls ancient technology is trying to take over the land of Aurania. The game will have three campaigns that take place over land, sea, and air and an entirely new roster of commanders. A new addition is a game mode called Conquest, which offers an interesting spin on the classic campaigns. Taking inspiration from roguelikes, you will undertake smaller battles while you upgrade and manage your forces. Choices are permanent throughout a run, so good game mechanics knowledge will be tantamount to success.
Just like its predecessor, Wargroove 2 will also offer multiplayer and an editor to create custom maps and campaigns. Chucklefish has not divulged a launch date yet, and Wargroove 2 will be coming out for Microsoft Windows and Nintendo Switch.
